MY BOY is the 7th single from Buono!, and the first in their latest album era. It was used as the ending theme for the anime adaption of Shugo Chara! But honestly, what single of theirs isn’t? (It IS what they were formed for). It is due to be released on the 29th of April, 2009.

…I… Think…….. I think I just died with joy. Anyone who’s read my other blog will know my love for other songs from Buono! such as Renai Rider and, much more obviously, Rottara Rottara. Well… They have nothing on MY BOY. The one thing I love most about this song would have to be that aggressive use of synths, drums, guitar and the other usual instruments. Of course, Buono! isn’t exactly all about cute pop (despite using that sound quite a bit), so this shouldn’t come as a surprise, but… I can’t help but love every single minute of the arrangement with its high-speed chorus and loud, angry aura. Especially that instrumental that opens the song and ends the majority of the choruses. I’m growing more and more accustomed to Buono!’s vocal style, too. I don’t want any wotas killing me for this, but I’m still not sure who exactly is who just by hearing them sing, but no matter which of the three girls it is, I’m starting to like their vocals a lot more. I don’t mind the slightly nasal, high-pitched sound in this song, so they can get away with it, anyway. GOD, THIS SONG IS AN AUDIO ORGASM. <3

Warp!, however, is a lot tamer, and uses a much brighter, typical H!P-sounding arrangement, mainly because of the synth/piano usage. The same instruments are there, but at the same time it’s not even close to being as aggressive as the a-side. As much as I used to hate these songs, my slightly halted dip into the Hello! Project has given me a newfound appreciation for these kinds of songs. Since it isn’t overly bubblegum and carries that rock/pop sound I love Buono! for, I can handle this.  And with a lighter arrangement like this, obviously the vocals are going to fit better. Maybe? Well, that’s about as much logic as I can apply to this song. Their voices aren’t horrible, but I do still prefer the deeper registers of singers outside the Hello! Project that don’t handle this style of music.

Yet another a-side to add to my list of favorites from Buono!. This is pretty much a good example of why I used Buono! to sort of transition into the Hello! Project: They aren’t using that signature sound in an overkilling manner, so it’s easier to handle. If not for those vocals, MY BOY could probably pass as a song for a completely different group or artist. Warp! couldn’t, but I like it anyway. I’m not sure what else to say, but I’ll end it here. Kudos, girls!

buono_dv02Oh, shut up, don’t judge me for breaking such a promise. Plus, I’m barely updating Rottarax2 as it is, so why not bring some semi-Hello! Project love to Vitamin Drop to sort of make up for it?

I’ll most likely be starting with My Boy, but I thought this’d be a nice time to introduce a new idea I had…

Basically, I start back-reviewing older eras from artists I already feature. I WON’T be doing singles if I decide to do this, but I will be going from their first album to the latest that I haven’t featured in that order. I don’t know for certain whether I’ll be doing this or not, but if I do, I’ll most likely be doing it with these artists:

  • Buono! (But of course. I just don’t want to do all those singles)
  • Utada Hikaru (She introduced me to J-Pop, so why not?)
  • Angela Aki (Since I only have to do HOME for her)
  • Namie Amuro (For the lulz, I’d like to see what I end up thinking of her albums)
  • Yuna Ito (Since HEART is the only one I have to do, again)
  • Anna Tsuchiya ( I don’t want to go through all those singles. ;~; )
  • Mika Nakashima (Same response as above)

We’ll see how TAFE and my attention span lets me handle this endeavour, but right now, consider it as an under-consideration thing.

Ah, how I wish I could just make this an album-only blog without having any regrets…
